JEMIMASARA's Commitment to Sustainability
JEMIMASARA believes that sustainability is not just a trend, but a cause we can all become part of to secure the future of the upcoming generations. Sustainability is at the core of JEMIMASARA and it constantly informs the approach to creating art, designing and making. Jemima wishes to create art that respect the planet, as well as the rights of everyone involved in its making.

Sustainability

Sustainable development is “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs,”
The concept of sustainability is based on three essential pillars: economic, environmental, and social.

How JEMIMASARA approaches Sustainability:

1. For her shop, Jemima Sara Source's Environmentally- Friendly Textiles which are certified by:

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100: Certifies that raw materials, intermediate and end products at all stages of production contain no substance harmful to people or to the environment.
FAIR WEAR FOUNDATION: This Code of Conduct is based on the Conventions of the International Labour Organisation and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
OCS CERTIFICATION: The organic t-shirts are certified OCS by ECOCERT Greenlife. OCS, Organic Content Standard, provides an independent certification that the textiles is made with organic grown materials.
WRAP: The hoodies are Certified by WRAP which states to be a catalyst for positive economic and environmental action. They work in the space between governments, businesses, communities, thinkers and individuals – forging powerful partnerships and delivering ground-breaking initiatives to support more sustainable economies and society. They drive change in areas where they can make the biggest difference: Clothing and textiles, Food and drink and Plastics.

JEMIMASARA uses recyclable shipping packaging and also searches for alliterative shipping methods to minimise carbon footprint from transportation e.g. cycling, if the order is close by to the studio. We do not use fur, wool, down, exotic animal hair. We use silk and source the silk from our trusted, ethical UK supplier based in Worcestershire.

2. Jemima works with other small, local businesses for production

JEMIMASARA works with the local community to help support other small businesses. Jemima, loves sourcing the material and meeting local suppliers as it not only lowers the brands carbon footprint but allows the brand to build strong and healthy relationships with suppliers. Jemima Sara's suppliers are based within the UK! (All close together).

3. Final stages of production is done in house by Jemima Sara herself!

JEMIMASARA stock and artwork is stored safely in the studio (excluding digital prints which are sent directly from her printers in London). Jemima wraps up every order with love and sends her orders through Royal Mail, DHL or Hermes or sometimes in person (depending on location). JEMIMASARA uses recyclable shipping packaging and does her best to search for alliterative shipping methods to minimise carbon footprint from transportation e.g. cycling, if the order is close by to the studio.

4. Recycling fabric and other art / product components.

Some of JEMIMASARA's designs that are not distributed before the launch of a new collection are up-cycled and turned into new, limited-edition of one-of-a-kind pieces. JEMIMASARA has a zero-waste approach to production and seek to minimise waste in all our processes.
For example Jemima's most recent t-shirt designs are up-cycled from a previous collection.

4. Designing Sustainable Items

As sustainability takes more and more meanings, young and established designers / artists find new ways of approaching it. Initiatives go beyond production, distribution, marketing, and recycling practices and seek to revolutionise how we buy and use products. To change patterns of consumption and use from the very core, a fundamental change needs to take place. This is rooted in the design / making process.

5. Timeless Pieces Over Trends

The JEMIMASARA approach to design rejects the concept of seasonal trends. It's a forever and whenever approach.
The avant-garde attitude to trends goes against the simple pattern of inventing and discarding styles, and instead focuses on continual growth and renewal.

Great art is independent of temporary fads and becomes perennial by virtue of its quality and adaptability.
